My work bridges journalism, rigorous scholarly research methods, and a background in digital technology development. This combination comes from more than a decade of experience as a newspaper reporter, a doctorate in 2023, and participation in civic technology, including as the founder the prize-winning civic app project, Civic Playground. I recently returned to the Bay Area after living in New York and then Paris where I taught communications and new media at the CELSA-Sorbonne University (and previously at New York University and Fordham University). The work you see on this site reflects stories published before I left daily reporting to pursue a Ph.D. degree at Columbia University but I will be adding more now that I have returned to community reporting. My appreciations to the editors who helped to craft some of them into prize-winning stories.
